OTHER PROCEDURES
The Riley Surgery Center features many other cosmetic procedures that could safely be performed on an outpatients basis. In addition to being a cosmetic plastic surgeon, Dr. Riley is also a board certified hand surgeon, specialized in diseases of the hand and a reconstructive surgeon, specialized in reconstructive procedures like breast reconstruction following breast amputation due to malignancy. Here is a summary of other procedures:

Combinations
Combinations of several different procedures are also a possibility at the Riley Surgery Center. Popular combinations are for instance breast augmentation or lift and a tummy tuck and/or liposculpture. Facial rejuvenation procedures are often combined with Botox or Restylane injectables. Combining procedures can be worth your while, because not only does one save additional anesthesia for separate procedures, the recovery period is also limited to the period that stands for the longest recovery period of the most elaborate of procedures performed. Also, the costs involved are greatly reduced when combining procedures. Many costs are not charged double, for instance operating room, anesthesia and the post-operative consultations. Extreme makeovers, involving multiple procedures by multiple specialists, can do wonders to a person. The surgeon at the Riley Surgery Center can coordinate this, but can also tell you more about the possibility of combinations, what combinations are safe enough to perform, and the costs involved.

Brachioplasty (arm lift)
Brachioplasty or arm lift is a procedure where the upper arms are recontoured. Usually, this consists of taking away excess fat and skin (dermolipectomy) of the upper arms, making them slimmer. Bear in mind that you will have a scar that extends from the elbow to the armpit. However, scars are usually a thin line that fades with time. Sometimes, liposculpture of the upper arms may suffice. In that case, only a tiny scar at the elbow and/or the armpit is produced. Liposculpture of the upper arms may be combined with a minimal dermolipectomy (with a shorter scar). Talk to the surgeon at the Riley Surgery Center to discuss the pro and cons of an arm lift.

Thigh Lift
Like an arm lift, a thigh lift can dramatically improve the aspect of the upper legs. Especially when the skin of the upper legs are redundant and sagging, for instance after loosing a lot of weight, liposculpture of the upper legs alone will not produce a pleasing result. Removing excess skin and fat (dermolipectomy) will correct this. A scar is produced that is well concealed in the groin, going all the way around finishing in the subgluteal fold. Sometimes, additional liposculpture of the lateral thighs (saddle bags) and medial knees complement the procedure. Special peri-operative precautions are taken to prevent infection, a complication that is particularly associated with this procedure, including pre-operative anti-septic bathing and meticulous shaving of the pubic and perineal areas, intra-operative intravenous antibiotics and post-operative oral antibiotics and pressure garments. Ask the surgeon at the Riley Surgery Center about this procedure.

Gluteal lift
J-lo's behind is particularly appreciated by millions around the world. Not everybody can have J-lo's figure, but they can come close. Recontouring the surroundings of the gluteal molds (cheeks) by performing targeted liposculpture of the surrounding tissues can accentuate the gluteal cheeks. If this cannot produce a pleasing result, gluteal augmentation, using a specially designed firm silicon implant will do the trick. In that case, a tiny incision is made between the gluteal molds, above the anus, and, working trough this incision, pockets are formed between the mayor and minor gluteal muscles. A well picked size implant is then inserted into both pockets after which the incision is closed. The gluteal molds are then taped and a pressure garment is fitted on for support and comfort. Sitting is prohibited for a week so bear in mind that this produces some discomfort. Again, anti-septic measures are taken to the extreme. Labioplasty (vaginal lip surgery)
The effects of a vaginal delivery or simply being born with oversized vaginal lips can be distressing for many women. They can even be a mechanical hindrance to normal vaginal coitus. Labioplasty corrects this deformity. Surgery is fast and discretely performed on an ambulatory basis, using local anesthesia combined with some intravenous sedation. A more pleasing appearance is the result which can mean a world of difference for lots of women. Don't be embarrassed to ask the surgeon at the Riley Surgery Center about this procedure.

Gynaecomastia (breast formation in men)
Gynaecomastia is a pathological condition of breast formation in men. In puberty, due to hormonal changes, gynaecomastia is common and usually dissolves with time. Persistent breast formation in men after adolescence should be examined by your doctor. It could be a symptom of hormonal changes that could be potentially harmful, including testicular cancer, intracranial hormone producing tumors or excessive cannabis or steroid use. Overweight, which creates the possibility of peripheral conversion in fatty tissue of testosterone into the female, breast growth stimulating estrogen, is a common cause of gynaecomastia. Usually, no cause is found. In any case, gynaecomastia needs to be corrected because of the higher incidence of breast cancer associated with this syndrome than in the female breast, which is already considerable. In moderate cases, a semi-circular incision around the lower border of the areole can be used to approach and excise the breast tissue. In more severe cases where there is also need to excise redundant skin, a peri-areolar doughnut skin excision can be used. In some cases, where the gynaecomastia is mainly due to fat deposits rather than breast tissue, liposculpture alone can suffice. A combination of any of the above techniques can also be used. Surgery is performed in day care under general anesthesia. Suction drainage is invariably used for a couple of days post-operatively. Correction of gynaecomastia is usually covered by insurance policies. Check with your insurer. And don't hesitate to ask your surgeon's opinion at the Riley Surgery Center about anything you don't understand

Papilloma (warts in the face and neck)
Human papilloma virus may produce wart-like growth of sometimes hundreds of lesions scattered over the face, neck and upper torso. Older people are particularly targeted, but the young is not always spared. Albeit harmless, these papilloma can be cosmetically distressing. Removing them with our state-of-the-art Radio-Laser machine is simple and fast, with no trace of any scarring, leaving you with a fresh and clean look again. Surgery is performed using intravenous sedation on an ambulatory basis. Have the surgeon at the Riley Surgery Center explain the details to you about this procedure.

Hand surgery
Correction of hand disorders are usually covered by insurance policies. Therefore, they are usually carried out in the Hospital. However, some may prefer the discrete surroundings of a private clinic. In addition, if one is uninsured or prefer not to use one's insurance policy, performing your hand surgery in the Riley Surgery Center can prove to be a lot cheaper than in a hospital. Elective small hand surgery like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, snapping fingers (TVS), de Quervain's disease, ganglia and tendon reconstructions can safely be performed in the Riley Surgery Center using intravenous regional anesthesia (numbing the arm only) in ambulatory care. Mayor hand surgery, usually the effects of trauma and which often necessitates the use of a microscope, are carried out in the Hospital. Talk to the surgeon at the Riley Surgery Center about your elective hand surgery.

Mayor Reconstructive Surgery
The surgeon at the Riley Surgery Center is affiliated with the Free Academical University Hospital in Amsterdam, Holland. Difficult reconstructive procedures are performed in conjunction with top reconstructive Dutch surgeons of the University Hospital, usually Dr. Henri Winters. These procedures are invariably insurance covered, performed in the Hospital and include procedures like breast reconstruction using abdominal musculocutaneos flaps and coverage of large (traumatic, disease induced or iatrogenic) defects with muscle-, musculocutaneos- or musculosseos flaps. See your surgeon at the Riley Surgery Center for details.
